One of Jared's family traditions is to have noodles cooked in turkey broth for Christmas dinner. They are so yummy! I'd never had them before, and I don't know anyone else that cooks them that way. His grandma is the ultimate noodle maker. She never uses a recipe, she rolls the dough out by hand and cuts them really thin with a knife. Jared and I tried it once, many years ago, and found out it is a humongous pain in the neck. He has always wanted to learn how to make them, and especially now since his grandma is getting up in years, and probably won't be able to make them much longer.
But hand making them was just too much work. His aunt gave him a pasta maker, and he has had tons of fun making all sorts of noodles. He has tried out many different sizes and thicknesses, and has made a really delicious replica of his grandma's noodles. Yay! And it is so easy! He showed me how to do it one day, and I made a batch, and it really is a satisfying feeling to see those beautiful noodles, and know that you made them. Plus, the pasta maker is a fun contraption. Joey likes turning the crank to help his dad. We don't have one of those pasta hanger things that they dry on yet, so we use these hangers. Jared calls them out food-grade hangers because we washed them.

Outside
Allie loves going outside now.
She has no fear, she often takes off crawling and doesn't stop until I go get her. This is unlike her brothers, who always wanted to stay near me, and didn't wander very far.It looks like she's walking around, but she's not, she's still just standing, though she's really good at it. But she took a couple steps yesterday!

Awesome week
This is one of my favorite weeks of the year.
Last year it was kind of ruined by my Pre-eclampsia.
Not this year.
I am enjoying the quiet. I only have to feed one little child.
No making them do chores, practice guitar, read, come inside and get ready for bed, no toys to pick up and fights to break up.
I love those boys.
But I love that they're having a blast in Colorado with their grandma and grandpa and cousins, and Jared and I are having a break.
I should probably say I miss them and can't wait to see them again, but I actually don't, and I know they're in good hands.
The time goes so fast!
We were going to leave Allie with my friend, Emmalie while we went to see a movie, but it looks like it was not meant to be.
I hope this doesn't gross you out too much. It kind of does me.
I think it's chicken pox. She had the vaccine almost 2 weeks ago, and sometimes I guess it takes that long for it to appear. She has these on her back, a couple on her arm, one on her abdomen and one on her forehead. I guess she's contagious, so we can't let her near little babies, like Emmalie's little Alex.
She seems like she's feeling fine, though. She's not even cranky, she's just walks around, happy as a clam. As much as she loves her brothers, I think she's enjoying the break too.

Today's Adventure
Okay, it was really last week, but I forgot about it, if you can believe it.
We were in sunday school, and I got a wiff of a stinky diaper coming from a certain baby playing at my feet. I was glad for the excuse to get out of sunday school class, because I didn't understand what they were talking about. Literally; it was the spanish speaking class. So I hauled off Allie to the mother's room. I lay her down and took off her diaper before I realized it was much, much worse than I originally thought. It was all over the back of her onesie, and because I wasn't careful it got on the hem of her dress. Not to mention the changing table. And I only had two inadequate wipes, dang it. So I made several trips to the paper towel dispenser, wetting them down in the sink, Allie sitting there naked, crying because the sound of the paper towels ripping scared her, and just when I thought it was all under control she peed all over the changing table. More trips for paper towels . . . a large quantity of hand sanitizer all over the changing table to disinfect it . . . finally a diapered and somewhat-happy baby, but now a naked baby. I always keep a spare onesie for such situations, but I had forgotten a spit-up rag, and had used that onesie, so it was all soggy and old-formula-stinky. Unbelievable. The sunday school lesson was probably about being prepared. So I went out with the naked baby and another mom saw me and started pulling stuff out of her diaper bag to find some clothes for Allie . . . headband . . . tights . . . shoes . . . socks . . . nothing. So I made a trip home and got her some nice warm pj's, and she fell asleep in the carseat so the rest of church was uneventful.
I'd like to say I learned my lesson, but today when I went to change her there were still no wipes in the diaper bag.

Pictures of a Cranky Baby
My friend Emmalie is an awesome photographer, and took some pictures of Allie. As you can see, Allie was really uncooperative. In fact, I think it's safe to say she was a real pain in the butt. As soon as we put her in the grass she started crying, and it was all downhill from there. No matter what we did she wouldn't chill out.
They're still adorable and funny, though, aren't they?
I was so surprised when she gave me the pictures that there were some smiling ones! I'd swear she didn't crack a smile the entire time.
This one is my favorite.
Cute, eh? If you need a photographer (and you live in Utah or Colorado, or maybe Idaho) I'd recommend her! Check it out:

Tyler's best friend
This is Tyler with his best friend, Dougie. They are both in morning kindergarten, but different classes. I bring Dougie home from school and every day I hear them whispering in the back seat, then Tyler says "Can Dougie come in our house?" Every day. And the answer is always yes. So Dougie runs home (he lives almost next door to us) and drops off his backpack and grabs something to eat, then runs over to our place and they play all afternoon. They run around outside, they play with Hotwheels, watch Looney Tunes, make tents out of blankets, they just have a blast being little boys. Their favorite game is to dress up in Tyler's squirrel and leopard costumes and play "kitty." I don't know what the game is, but one of them is a bad kitty, that's all I know. I guess you always need a villain around. I love that he has a little buddy to play with. Tyler has really never played with other kids. He has always been content to play by himself or with his brothers. So when they first started playing he had a lot to learn, and Dougie was patient with all of Tyler's bossiness and drama. Now he does much better and they get along great. I love it.
What she thinks of apricots
A little bit sour, perhaps?
Oh, P.S. I kind of gave up on the Baby-led Weaning. It drove me nuts.

New Trick
It's always fun when babies learn new things. I'm not really thrilled about this one, though.
Sometimes we find it on her nose, which looks really funny. Often it's over her eyes which, oddly enough, doesn't really bother her that much. Usually she just leaves it alone. But someday she might refuse to keep headbands on at all.

Hemangiomas
A few weeks after Allie was born I noticed a red mark on her forehead. It looked like her skin had been pinched and there were broken capillaries under the skin. I figured she had scratched herself, or they'd done something at the hospital. You can see it here, it's a light red spot. But it never went away. And when she was being discharged from the hospital the doctor told me it was called a hemangioma, that it was just a bunch of extra blood vessels that build up sometimes, that it was normal and harmless, and would most likely be gone by the time she was 5. Though she did say it might get huge. And with a smile she said if it bothers me, just stick a bow over it. Well, it didn't get huge, and I know because I made the mistake of googling it, and saw what amounts to a horror show. But it did get much bigger. And I did take the advise of the doctor of sticking a bow on it.
"I'm Adorable anyway!"
This is what it looks like now. I do keep it covered because it's not very attractive and I want people to look at her cute face. It's also kind of awkward, because people are too polite to mention it, but you know they're thinking "What the heck?" and kids ask about it, but I don't know how to explain it to them. Words like "hemangioma," "blood vessels," and even "birth mark" don't mean anything to them.
And also the headbands are really adorable.
She also has a little one on her right eyelid, one behind her ear, and one on her back. They can be treated with lasers or steroid shots, but since they are usually harmless, they are just left alone. The only concern is if they are in a bad spot, like on the lip or eyelid and interfere with vision or eating. Apparently one day they will just start shrinking, and in a matter of a couple weeks they'll be gone forever, and often the skin looks as if nothing was ever there.
I like baldies, but I admit I can't wait till she has hair to cover it up.
